Hope for a Thorn producer Jay Delaney has been invited to be a Producer Mentor at the prestigious South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas next weekend, where his documentary Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie premiered in 2008, alongside the producers of such films as Before Sunset, Winnebago Man, and Old Joy.

Jay will be advising filmmakers in one-on-one sessions, while also getting to enjoy one of the best festivals in the country.

It’s been a few months since our last post. We’ve been distracted by other things (including Chicago’s beautiful summer!), but now we’re back at it!

We’ve revised the website, updating its look and particularly that of the blog, as well as adding some new features – the new trailer is up, as are some Thorne family photos.

We are thrilled to announce that Hope For A Thorn has received a grant from Women In Film – Florida! We are proud to have the support of this wonderful organization.

Jay and I will be leaving for SXSW on Friday! His film’s premiering Saturday night and we’ll be able to catch two screenings before we return to Florida on Wednesday.

While we are in Austin, my advisor Ula and friend Alix will be presenting a workshop at the Women as Global Leaders Conference in Dubai which I helped author. The workshop is called Leading Through Creative Voice: Women In Film and analyzes the current state of women in the industry as well as the portrayal of women in popular films. Because of the conference coinciding with SXSW, I am sadly unable to attend this year, but they will do a tremendous job presenting (and promise to bring me back a new shawl!)

Great news!! We are proud to announce that Hope For A Thorn producer Jay Delaney’s feature documentary, Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie, will be premiering at the prestigious South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas. Jay and Erin will be traveling to the festival in early March (fest dates are March 7 – 15).

One of the best film and music festivals in the country, SXSW accepted 113 feature films and 100 shorts from 3,140 submissions. Also playing at this year’s fest are Sundance hits Baghead, American Teen, and Choke, 21 starring Kevin Spacey and Kate Bosworth, and films by Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), Harmony Korine (Gummo, writer of Kids), and Martin Scorsese (no list necessary). Pretty impressive crowd to be in with.
